Finally! Cleaning the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

I have been waiting so long for this to happen! For those of you who don't know what the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is, let me give you a bit of its history.

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch was caused by the misuse of trash disposal. Oceanic currents piled up trash from different parts of the country, which all ended up in the Pacific Ocean. The garbage patch is twice the size of Texas and has caused serious health problems to aquatic life and major contamination in the water. Since 1996, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has had the mission to clean out this large patch.

So, on July 14, 2012, they were able to clean out 50 tons of trash! That is a major improvement to the mission, and I'm glad that they have started cleaning it out.
